Italians consult social media mainly to stay informed about current affairs, although some do so for pure entertainment in their leisure time. When it comes to what they do on these platforms, Liking content and chatting on instant messaging services are the most common activities. In contrast, posting photos and videos, commenting on posts and sending private messages are less frequent.

Social media is a valuable tool for business in Italy, which often uses it for B2C marketing. Facebook, Instagram and YouTube are the most popular platforms, allowing companies to showcase their products and build a community of loyal customers. LinkedIn is also used by a significant number of Italians to search for job opportunities and connect with potential employers.

While the online audience in Italy is highly active on all major platforms, they show a clear preference for Instagram and YouTube over Facebook. This may be due to the fact that these platforms offer a more visual and engaging experience, which appeals to the Italian aesthetic.
